Dustin Hodge is a writer and documentary filmmaker who has created content and developed projects that interrogate issues of class, education, health care, and other traumas facing America's rural communities.
Experience
PODCASTING
Lost Highways.
Dustin was a producer for Lost Highways, a long-form audio documentary podcast that explored overlooked historical events and their lasting impact on our lives today. The series was funded by the National Endowments for the Humanities.
The Tight Rope.
Dustin was a producer on the Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Tricia Rose hosted podcast The Tight Rope. Guests have included: Mayim Bialik, Jane Fonda, Michael Moore, Daveed Diggs, Rakim, Common, Nicole Hannah-Jones, Patricia Arquette, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Roxane Gay, and Killer Mike.
TV, Film, Documentary
Dustin Hodge is a writer, producer, and director with extensive experience in television and documentary production. He has written and produced over 260 episodes of national television and led production in more than 30 countries. He has also worked as a producer at a CBS news affiliate.
Dustin directed, wrote, and produced ten seasons of the national television series Little Britches Rodeo, which aired in more than 52 million homes on RFD-TV. The series was syndicated in another 42 million homes on The Cowboy Channel. In addition, Dustin produced the spin-off series Little Britches on The Road, which ran for six seasons and focused on rural areas.
Dustin produced the feature documentary "Tha Bridge" (2010), which explored the positive influence of hip-hop on society, "Healthcare in Rural America" (2017), which documented the impact of health care in small rural markets, and "Oral Histories of Southern Colorado" (2018) that traced the long-lasting effects of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo on generations of southern Coloradans.
Dustin served as a consulting producer for the documentary "Arkansas River," which examined the river's economic and social importance and was released on PBS.
Dustin also produced two seasons of Champs Boxing in Spanish on TeleFutura.
Additional production clients include universities, hospitals, rural communities, museums, and numerous non and not-for-profit organizations across the United States.
He is also an Emmy voting member for the Television Academy (Producers and Documentary peer groups), the film production unit coordinator for the Pueblo Regional Film Commission, and a Producers Guild of America Member (Producer's Council), where he serves on the following committees: Education, Employment, and Documentary & Nonfiction. He also served as a reviewer for the Colorado Film Commission Screenplay Review Program.
HIGHER EDUCATION
Content & Media Development
Dustin has dedicated much of his professional life to creating story-driven, student-focused campaigns for strategic planning, study abroad programs, and grant-funded initiatives in higher education. His work is centered on supporting rural institutions, as well as first-generation and at-risk students.
In addition to his professional work, Dustin has taught journalism at Goucher College, writing at Peterson Space Force Base, and media, writing, journalism, and communication at several universities.
SCHOLARSHIP & SPEAKING
Academic Presentations & Public Speaking
Dustin was an invited speaker for the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program.
Additionally, Dustin frequently presents at national conferences, including the Pop Culture Association of America, the Society for Interdisciplinary Social Imagery, and the National Women's Society of America. He has also presented at the U.S. Air Force Academy's international conference War, Literature, and the Arts.
ARTS & CULTURE
Advocate, Invited Reader, & Panelist
Dustin is dedicated to bridging community needs in literacy and economic development, with a focus on creating sustainable opportunities in rural areas. He works to foster diverse cultural competencies and increase exposure to the arts.
In 2018, Dustin was appointed to the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read Committee, a group responsible for selecting the year's featured literary works.
In 2017, he was invited to serve as a panelist for the Aspen Institute's Colorado Public Dialogues on Public Libraries, which helped develop the white paper "Libraries: Building Community Resilience in Colorado."
He has served on the boards of libraries, art centers, foundations, and other nonprofits.
